What I do

There is always some degree of conflict in
your team. Not openly of course.

But under the surface people get irritated by what others say and do.
Assumptions and preconceptions drive behavior.

What happens?

There is always some degree of conflict in your team. Not openly of course. But under the surface people get irritated by what others say and do. Assumptions and preconceptions drive behavior. Disagreement and potential conflict do not get resolved. They grow.

Conflict will feed itself with negative energy. Above the surface, the team pretends to cooperate productively, but the reality is that frustrations grow, the communication deteriorates and people do not perform at full potential.

What to do about this?

Team interventions help to discuss the undiscussable. They bring tension and potential conflict out into the open, such that we can no longer ignore it. Then we can return to radical honesty and have all professionals do what they were hired for in the first place: share their view and provide direction.

This is uncomfortable at first. Yet discomfort is needed to grow and improve. I help the team return to high quality conversations. Open and honest dialogues where people say what needs to be said. With clarity. And with a smile.

What people say

"Within minutes, Frank succeeds to capture his audience and takes them on a fascinating journey into the world of different cultures and habits. An eye-opener."

NICOLE BIESHEUVEL, HEAD OF CORPORATE SALES & MARKETING, BENELUX AT SCHENKER LOGISTICS

"Even though it has been a year since I took the class, just yesterday, I was explaining to a coworker the differing importance that consensus plays in decision-making for different cultures. I have found what I learned on international diversity to be very valuable in understanding and (at times) defusing cross-cultural interactions."

GLENN G. DAVES, VICE PRESIDENT PACKAGE INNOVATION AT NXP SEMICONDUCTORS

"In his presentation Frank combines D&I acumen with extensive global business and leadership experience. He challenges the audience with unique points of view that inspire to action."

MARICEL PEREZ LOVISOLO, VICE PRESIDENT GLOBAL LEARNING AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT AT JACOBS

"In 2-days Cultural Awareness training given by Frank Garten I enjoyed and learned so much. Frank is a very good coach, he is open and has a lot of knowledge of the Asian cultures."

DUC NGUYEN, SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT OMRON

"Frank is an extremely inspiring individual with a unique story. Frank manages to create awareness and translate that in a humorous manner, necessary in confrontations with one’s own behavior. I can truly recommend Frank as a great speaker about communication and mutual understanding."

MAHROU KHARAZI, PRODUCT MANAGER AT PHILIPS HEALTHCARE

"Frank, you have rapidly earned my trust and respect when working on my leadership skills. The most remarkable testimony comes from my colleagues: they recognize a clear difference in my behaviors. Your trainings have been always a great mix of theory and practice. You had an excellent antenna for the group's sentiment: you never got stuck on your text book."

MARK SCHULZ, COMMERCIAL EXCELLENCE MANAGER AT BOREALIS

"In the last couple of years, Frank has been training many of my colleagues in what we called "working in a complex international environment". Since I have Omron colleagues from all parts of the world working together in one or more locations, this training proved to be very valuable."

TIM FOREMAN, EUROPEAN R&D MANAGER AT OMRON

"Working with Frank is a real pleasure: his ability to understand and translate our leadership development goals into a pragmatic, engaging and impactful programme gets great feedback from our managers. And our multicultural, diverse community is not the easiest of audiences."

NINA BAERNTHALER, GLOBAL TALENT MANAGER AT BOREALIS

Clarity in conversations

I work with teams to improve their communication. Because we often claim that the team works well, but under the surface there’s unresolved tension.

Your team members come to work with good intentions. But high pressure, unrealistic expectations and different personalities can lead to friction between people. These frictions often go ‘underground’ and grow, until conflict is inevitable.

I help the team to have crystal clear conversations about their differences. We discuss the undiscussable, in openness and with clarity.

I help teams to restore healthy communication and bring their focus back to their goals. Because poor communication kills performance. I do this in team facilitation, team workshops and individual coaching sessions. I often facilitate teams for a longer period, helping them to bring clarity in their spoken (conversations) and written (email) communication.
